My Passion For Music – TriveJay

Sebola Masilo L

Maphori Julia (22) based in Limpopo, currently studying Bachelor Of Law at the University Of Limpopo, Turf Campus. She is also known by her stage name TriveJay, and she likes putting much of her efforts on making music.

Her passion for music started back in 2017, “I was not actually recording a song to be released but testing my voice. I got everyone impressed and started recording in 2018” said TriveJay. What led her to test the voice is the occasion occurred back in her high school days when her Life Orientation teacher gave the class an opportunity to do what they are good at as part of a year mark. She sang the song titled “Fly” by Nicky Minaj featuring Rihanna, after the performance her classmate screamed so hard and beating the tables, “Like it was lit” she felt like a celebrity for that moment and left her teacher, Mrs. Thobejane flabbergasted and speechless that she even asked the class about mark allocation. “I could hear the most saying 90% and I got 100%, Total Mark”. “Learners began to give me stage names related to rap music, Top Queen, Trap Queen, Queen of Rap and Queen Goat, etc. I had most people encouraging me to consider rap music as my career”

The performance at school made TriveJay a topic of each street, kids would come to her crib asking her to rap for them and other hip hop artist around came asking for a feature but then by that time, she did not her own recorded song or recorded anything, she didn’t even know how her voice sounds on the microphone but kept on believing in herself, that why she had to do voice testing.

“For community and peers showing love and support, I was like damn I never wrote a song, but they believe I’m a star already. Most importantly I want to thank my teacher, Mrs. Thobejane for bringing out the talent in me that was hidden, that 100% mark was really a motive to take my music career so serious, whenever I go to studio I always remember the look and smile she gave me after the performance, then I be like I got this. She really played a big role in my music career I wish she comes across this article because she doesn’t know I’m currently doing music for real.”

TriveJay’s greatest weakness is a failure to complete a song due to academic work because it led to abandoning the whole project and never get back to it but her Passion for Music becomes what motivates her to keep pushing and going although it gets tough sometimes. The support she receives from her family and friends keeps her focused on the game. “We will support you in everything you do and love because your happiness is what matters the most,” says her family. As for her friends, “Wow, I feel so blessed, they do everything in their powers to make sure I get to the top” she said.

She recommends Sleek as one of the best producers she ever met, calling him Woolworth Producer, patient and most importantly he never made her feel uncomfortable while working as the bottom signing term is not mixing business with pleasure and that has created a strong bond between the two without other pulling stunts on another one. The relationship is strictly business. Sleek is known for his being a hard worker and passionate about producing. His passion speaks louder on the song ‘My Ex’ by TriveJay produced by him. “Trive you the best and please do what’s best and I’ll perform my magic on the track” Sleek.

About the title of the song ‘My Ex’ produced by Sleek, it revolves around an ex-boyfriend who betrayed her girlfriend. She did the song on behalf of a girl she grew up with, “I had to put myself in her shoes as a lady and feel the pain as if it was me” she quoted. She became her friend’s shoulder to cry on as she believes ladies must not laugh at each other nor mock as they go through the same things. “A girl should not discriminate or laugh at a lady who was raped because tomorrow it might be you because the majority of victims of rape are females, so we should be there for each other…. I'm a lady and what happened to her might happen to me tomorrow who knows, and I won’t need a guy shoulder to cry on because it seems like niggas no longer have shoulders,” she said. Lyrics talk about the sacrifices the girl made when they fell in love and how the guy started to feel like he’s too expensive for the girl. Hence, explicit events that occurred touched TriveJay to go to the studio emotional and make the song taking the culpability over everything.

“Ladies go through a lot of things like period pains, pregnancy sicknesses, labor pains, etc. All we need is love and respect, the p**sy that you hit-and-run is the same p**sy that brought you on earth, God created men to protect us,  the reason why our bodies are different, men are tough and women are soft that is just how is it.” She emphasized.

Another song ‘For Life’ available on YouTube for streaming, the song ‘My Ex’ is not officially released but there is a link on her Instagram page. She’s currently working on an EP to be released soon and for more updates follow her on Instagram page @TriveJay. TriveJay looking up to Nicky Minaj make her do the best, “We never met before, but she’s also playing the biggest role in my music career, she is the best and I believe if you want to do the best things I live, you must choose role models wisely.”

“I believe in working with new people to gain more experience and to learn more from them, and to never let criticism put you down but to take it as a sign of courage to do big moves. I see myself being one of the best female rappers in Africa in a few years coming.”

“To everyone who wants to be like me, I just want to say passion got it all, the deeper your passion the higher probability of success, your passion will break every chain for you, they say Education is a key to success but myself I believe that passion is a key to success, E.g. you can take horses to drink water but you can’t force them to drink water, what I mean is you can take your kids to school but you can’t force them to read, if  they lack passion the probability of success is low.”

“What goes around comes back around”
“If it does not kill you it makes you stronger”
“A hand that gives shall receive”

2018 I made the song “My Ex” for someone, I gave her support because that’s what she needed the most and now God blessed me with more than 80% of ladies who support me and I’m grateful for that.

Stop Women And Children Abuse

STOP WOMEN AND CHILDREN ABUSE

Sebola Masilo L

Thru the ancient time, our grandfathers knew to plant a rose for her.
With love within them, she was always protected and safe.
As minor as they were as a nation they only knew the language of care and love,
Good men knew that safety for women and children is their priority,
and now, good men hide behind the billboard when women and children are abused.

Women and children in our time they are treated like animals,
It was animals that our people knew to slaughter not women and children,
As water that flows in a periodic river during the day out and night,
It is peace and safety that women and children are assured.

You bought her a drink not a right over her say,
You are in a relationship with her not in a boxing ring,
That child needs to grow up and see the beauty of life,
children are born to increase our nation and to be loved.

Passing women drowning in a pool of tears shows cowardness,
Only decent People can stop women and children abuse
For it is the duty of clean water to wash up dirty clothes,
It is a duty of decent men to start spreading love.
Stop Women and Children Abuse.

Not In My Name Anymore Xenophobia

Not In My Name Anymore Xenophobia
Sebola Masilo L
English Poem

Mind Of African Child Is Divided,
First It Was Our Land, Minerals, Continent And Our Blood
Now Our Minds.
Lions Know How To Attack The Enemy In Alliance,
Africans Knows To Attack Each Other Satisfying The Enemy.
With A Conscious Of Being Black
Not In My Name Anymore.

You Take A Knife Made In Europe As African Child To Stab An African Child,
You Call An African Child A Foreigner and Europeans Your Boss,
With Heated Faces And Wilting Lacking Love For One Of Our Own
We Stand, Shout How We Hate Africans and Kill One Another.
Your Enemies Exploit your Minerals,
You Work For Them.
Your African Brothers And Sisters Hustle For themselves,
You shed their blood.
If Hating African Child Is A Culture,
Africa, Not In My Name Anymore.

If Colonial Borders Divided Our Minds To Even Kill One Another,
Africa, It Shall Be Not In My Name Anymore.
The Difference I See Is Merely A Language
We are All African, We are All Blacks And Have Been Robbed Our True Identity.
Learn To Love And Embrace Each Other Regardless Of boundaries Dividing Us.
Unity Shall It Be, In Our Name.

Myself Growing ( Poem )

MYSELF GROWING

Through Sweet Voice That Softened Their Ears,
To A Deep Voice That Now Threatens Them,
Blank Heart For Pumping Blood,
But Now Filled With Relationship Bruises,
From A Soul That Lived For Nothing Except Being Loved
To A Soul Inherited A Voluptuous  Desire To Be Happy.

A Mind That Had No Noun Existing But Fantasies
To A Mind That Is Troubled About Tomorrow,
Curved Road With Humps
But The Destination Is Filled With Delightfulness,
Music Becomes A Cure To Depression,
Trouble Portray Themselves as Mountains
And I Being A River Flow,
Without The Force Erosion There Is No Way Out For Me

MYSELF GROWING
